Pastor Settles, not only serves as pastor of Refuge Church but also functions in the apostolic ministry. He and his wife of 35 years, Kathy, reside in Olney, Maryland. They have four children and ten grand children. Pastor R. Lamont Settles is the Senior Pastor of RefugeChurch in Olney, Maryland.His father, the late Bishop Rufus Settles and his mother, Sarah Settles raised Pastor Settles in a loving, Christian home. Although they raised him to know the will and the word of God, he chose to spend his earlier years in “prodigal” living. By God’s grace and purpose, he came to his end in 1974. Since then, he has continued to grow in the knowledge and strength of the Lord.Pastor Settles is grateful for his years in darkness, for he realizes that this period of his life caused him to admit his powerlessness to help himself, and helped him to deeply appreciate the redemption of his life. His gratitude is revealed in his lifestyle. His commitment & faithfulness to Christ is evident in everything he does. Pastor Settles is very aware of God’s purpose and plan for his life and for the RefugeChurch Body of Christ. He is committed to teaching others to “develop as a selfless and mature people who are totally submitted to the covenantal principles of God and committed to serving in ministry to reveal the power and the Glory of God.”Pastor Settles is also a part of The Mid Atlantic Leadership Conference (MALC) and the “NOWHEAR THIS” television broadcast.In the late 60’s Kathy Mosley began coming to Refuge Church with one of the deacon’s children and really enjoyed the ministry of the pastor, Elder Rufus Amos Settles. She was a catholic and took note of the wisdom this man had while ministering. She said “He really is preaching good to his members.” Somehow missing the fact that the word was for her also, she kept coming and one day joined to the dismay of her mother.Pastor Kathy gave her life to The Lord Jesus Christ in early 1971 and has now been a member of RefugeChurch for nearly forty years. It has been a great journey full of nuances and challenges but one with great rewards. She met and married Pastor Settles’ eldest son in 1975 and has four children, two step-children and ten grand children. Her first love is communicating the goodness of The Lord to whomever will listen. She has worked as a Sunday School teacher for the youth as well as the adult classes. She loves the elderly and has led many groups, young and old, to visit various nursing homes in our area. Pastor Kathy enjoys singing whether it is in the form of a choir, duet, trio or an ensemble. She led and composed songs for the Kingdom Giants youth choir for many years. Her endeavor is to give back to The Lord as much as possible in the hopes that others will love Him as she does.Along with her husband of 36 years, she has traveled throughout theU. S. as well and abroad sharing the love of God and meeting members of the Body of Christ in lands such as Tokyo, Japan; Guatemala City, Guatemala; Seoul, Korea; Kuwait City, Kuwait. She hopes to continue traveling whenever The Lord gives her the opportunity for the earth is The Lord’s the fullness thereof, the world, and all they that dwell within.
